Hello, I just started a new blog http://everythingalaska.blogspot.com/ and am very disappointed at the number of hits I've had. I wasn't expecting tons but certainly was expecting more than 10 - 12 a day. Can anyone tell me what are reasonable expectations? I've submitted my site to search engines, directories and the like.

Thanks,
Scott
It's always difficult to tell what's reasonable expectations, but the more you work (and network - with other bloggers / webmasters) the better you're off!

You should comment on related blogs and let them know when you're posting something really interesting. Suck up to the more popular bloggers and you might get them to link to your blog posts once in a while.

You should also make it easier for people to subscribe to your syndication feed and provide at e-mail subscribtion like the one from http://www.zookoda.com/
hello, sorry I don't have too much to offer on incrasing traffic to your blog but I just wanted to say i looked at your blog and it was very interesting. one of my biggest passions is reading and seeing pictures about different cultures and what it looks like in different places that i have never been to. i liked your site a lot especially the photographs about flowers and gardening. are those pictures you have taken yourself?

Getting traffic to your blog is always going to be a challenge. It will take time but you should see a steady increase if you put the effort in. As others have suggested building links from other bloggers will help. Spend a little bit of time every week submitting your blog to the directories and blgo review sites(I've started to compile a list on RMB, see link in my sig).
It does take some time, but persistence is key.  Keep spending some submitting your site to blog directories.  There are a few alaska specific directories that you could be listed in like Alaskabot, and a few others.  Make sure to comment on some of the other alaska blogs out there.
